Master Of Arts In Teaching, English Education (Secondary)

A transcript evaluation is completed once official transcripts from all relevant degrees and coursework have been received by WGU. Transcripts must be received prior to your initial term start date.

WGU provides two pathways for entrance into our Master of Arts in Teaching program. Pathway 1 is the completion of a related degree. Pathway 2 is the completion of an unrelated degree with sufficient coursework in the content area of the intended area of licensure.

The specific requirements for admission via either Pathway 1 or 2 into the Master of Arts in Teaching, English Education (Secondary) program are outlined below. The degree or coursework necessary to meet these requirements must be completed prior to admission.

PATHWAY 1 – Completion of related degree 


Proof of completion of an undergraduate or graduate  degree in English/Liberal Arts or related content area
Cumulative GPA of 2.5 (or state GPA requirement if higher)  or competency-based equivalent



PATHWAY 2 – Completion of unrelated degree with qualifying coursework

  • Must be college-level coursework from a regionally accredited institution in the United States as determined by the Department of Education.
  • A grade point of 2.0 (C) for each course submitted is required, in addition to meeting a cumulative GPA of 2.5 (or state GPA requirement if higher).
